Negative thinking is like black fabric
obstructing our vision.
We mistake the fabric for the road,
people on the road
or even, our loved ones.
Negative thinking is salt:
not to be sprinkled on a wounded heart,
for it will be more painful.
Negativity is like fire,
causing the heart to blaze in pain;
negative thinking is a car wreck in our minds,
bringing grave injury.
Negative thinking
is like tawdry cosmetics
ruining the dignified visage.
Negative thinking
is like a robber
stealing away precious treasures of
happiness and gratitude.
Negative thinking is like a funhouse mirror
distorting the figures of thoughts—our true and strong self,
as if contorting a beautiful woman into a beastly wolf.
Negativity is too noisy and discordant,
drowning out our heart’s peace and compassion.
Bitter and struggling,
through time,
we endlessly swallow a taste difficult to bear,
till life is
destroyed,
through and through.
