The Star's Path: Inspiration

In September 2021, the autumn winds swept across Canada. There was a hint of chill in the air as night fell. The occasional calls of invisible insects and distant migrating birds gave depth to the mysterious tranquillity of the dusk.
By that time, the height of the global health crisis had begun to subside. Zhen-Ru kept a close watch on the evolving situation, still hoping dearly to contribute something more to console the collective anguish of the time. In the middle of many days spent in thoughts and discussions, she would make time for an evening walk with friends.
As usual, everyone had a swaying flashlight in hand to avoid stepping on the tiny insects in the dark. When they reached an open spot, she invited everyone to switch off their lights. The moment the darkness immersed, it was as if the whole world had vanished away, together with all the stresses and noises of every-day life. Then, as their eyes gradually began to adapt, the beauty of the night emerged into view. Stars, nebulae, meteors, the magnificent galaxy stretching across the night sky, and the serene infinity of time and space right before their eyes... It was as though a new window to the universe was opened.
"Looking at the starry sky makes all the problems feel so much smaller, and the mind so much clearer." Zhen-Ru has loved gazing at the stars ever since she was a child. She once asked her parents, "Where is the switch that lights up the moon and stars?" As she grew older, her tender curiosity would lead her onto a search to discover a "switch" to light up the path to hope and happiness in the lives of all.
Bathed in the starlight pouring gently onto the world, Zhen-Ru thought of the spiritual masters and sages. They are as countless and as brilliant as the stars. She felt grateful that, generation after generation, despite hardships and the passage of time, they never ceased to shine their light upon all beings, like stars whose light would reach us even from many light-years away. Today, as always, they are there, reaching out to us to light up a path of hope, kindness, and truth, to guide us from suffering to happiness.
